Thanks to the knowledge accumulated by successive generations over the centuries and advances in analytical techniques, phytotherapy has become one of the essential fields of medical sciences. Although herbal medicine was of lesser interest during some periods of development of our civilization, as in the case of rapid social changes, epidemics of the Middle Ages, or the development of antibiotic therapy in the 20th century, natural therapeutic methods based on plants are becoming increasingly popular, which is associated with, inter alia, the adverse side effects of synthetic drugs and resistance to long-term antibiotic therapy.
